Vegan Blendtec Soup Recipe


One of the perks of owning a high powered blender the ability to make raw soup on demand. This vegan soup recipe can be made raw if you exclude the last two ingredients.

Before purchasing my Blendtec Blender I watched many videos and read many reviews and so on. But, it was while seeing a live demo and tasting the soup made from the Blendtec did I decide to buy it.

I have used the Tortilla Soup Variation in the Blendtec Cookbook to come up with my own Vegan Blendtec Soup Recipe.

I love using the raw ingredients and this is so simple it is usually made by my young children. This soup recipe makes a quick lunch and I always have the ingredients on hand. For variety, you can add great toppings, such as avocado,  black olives, green onions, lime wedges, etc…

Vegan Tortilla Blendtec Soup Vegan Blendtec Soup Recipe

Blendtec Soup Recipe

  • 1-2 medium sized tomatoes
  • 1/2 stalk celery
  • 4-6 baby carrots
  • 1 tablespoon dried diced onion (or 2 Tblsp fresh onion*)
  • 1/2 – 1 tsp garlic powder (or 1 garlic clove*)
  • 1 small ring of jalapeno (optional*)
  • 2 tablespoons Taco Seasonings
  • fresh ground pepper to taste (I use lemon pepper)
  • salt to taste
  • 2 cups hot water
  1. Place the above ingredients into your blender jar and blend very well. For Blendtec users touch the “soups” button and run one cycle.
  • one handful of tortilla chips
  • 1 can beans (pinto, black…whatever you like or have)
  1. Add tortilla chips and beans to the jar and pulse a time or two for the consistency you want your soup to be.
  2. Serve with extra tortilla chips.

For a raw vegan soup, omit the tortilla chips and beans.

*On a side note. I have found adding fresh onion and garlic and jalapenos make this soup quite spicy for little ones. That is why I use garlic and onion seasoning in my soup.

Some details around temperatures achieved by blending alone.  I was curious to know how much the blender actually increased the temperature of my soup, so I performed an experiment with water only.  Starting with 20 ounces of 70 degree F tap water,then blending at high speed for 90 second intervals and measuring the temperature after each 90 second cycle.  The following temperatures were recorded:

after 1.5 minutes – 95 deg F water, no visible steam

after 3 minutes – 134 deg F water, first visible steam

after 4.5 minutes – 162 deg F water, more visible steam

after 6 minutes – 184 deg F water, even more visible steam

after 7.5 minutes – 200 deg F water, lot’s of steam and the water level decreased by 1 ounces (19 ounces remaining)

after 9 minutes – 206 deg F water, lot’s of steam and the water level decreased by 2 ounces (18 ounces remaining)

This averages out to ~25 degree F increase per 1.5 minutes of blending at high speed, up to 200 deg F.  Knowing this is helpful if you have ingredients in your soup that need to reach a specified temperature.

By the way, this soup was my 700th blend. The Blendtec counts the cycles on a nice display counter. It helps keep track of all the healthy foods you are feeding your family. I am very pleased with my Blendtec. I recommend one for every family with a high-powered desire to feed themselves or their family well.
