Strawberry-Banana Kefir Smoothie

Kefir Smoothie

Today is a spring-like day in the south. Just normal for this time of year. Next week it will be winter again…then spring then so on until it’s hot! I love the South! The perfect day for a Spring-like Smoothie.

I found lots of beautiful ripe-red strawberries…among other goodies at the vegetable/fruit stand yesterday. Even the strawberry tops were pretty and green. So, I tossed the whole strawberry in my smoothie, tops and all. Did you know you can do that? I washed mine well, by the way … these were not labeled organic.

Beautiful Ripe Strawberries

My coconut kefir was ready this morning so I used this in my smoothie. Kefir is an excellent probiotic which contains much more beneficial bacteria than yogurt.

To make my coconut kefir I used 1 can of coconut milk. It was quite thick, and I had no coconut milk to add to it at the time I added my kefir grains, a couple of days ago.I also alternate my kefir grains from coconut milk to animal milk to keep my grains growing. They seem to grow better in animal milk, but work well in coconut milk too.

Soon I will have access to raw Goat’s milk, then I will really be excited about my kefir!

Fresh ingredients.

Stawberry-Banana Kefir Smoothie

  • 1/2 cup Coconut Kefir (or kefir of your choice)
  • 1 cup Coconut Milk (or water)
  • 3 Bananas (fresh or frozen)
  • 10-12 Strawberries (fresh with tops or frozen)
  • 1 teaspoon of Daily Boost Herba-Smoothie Mix* (optional)

Blend all ingredients in your blender.

Grab a great book and your smoothie and sit out under the trees. Enjoy the beginning of Spring.

Daily Boost Herba-Smoothie Mix

Bulk Herb Store has a variety of Herbal Smoothie Mixes that are great for a little boost. Daily Boost Herba-Smoothie has Siberian ginseng, Hawthorn berry, Bilberry fruit, Ginkgo, Burdock root, Horsetail/Shavegrass, Oatstraw.

Note: For high-powered blenders, if you are using all fresh ingredients the more you blend your smoothie the more the blades will warm up your smoothie. This was not a concern for my kefir smoothie, but some who like smoothies cold or frozen may want to add ice or frozen fruit.
