Pineapple-Orange Smoothie Recipe w/Alfalfa Sprouts

The pineapple on my counter had been setting there awhile. I know this, because once of my children warned me I need to cut it before it goes bad. It wasn’t until the next day that I took heed and cut up the pineapple. I don’t know what aversion I have to cutting up pineapples. I guess they are placed in stores quite green that it takes several days for them to ripen and they kinda get lost in the row of produce on my kitchen counters.  But, thankfully, I do manage to cut them when they are super ripe and oh, so juicy. This one was not exception.

To this smoothie I added Alfalfa sprouts. I am doing very well with using sprouts this month. I am nearly ready to begin another jar of sprouts soon.

This Pineapple-Orange Smoothie w/Alfalfa Sprouts got rave reviews from the kiddos. They said it was more like Pineapple Juice. I can go with that. They drank it right up.

Pineapple-Orange Smoothie w/Alfalfa Sprouts

It is a great feeling knowing my family has had our high dose of nutrition (from sprouts, or greens or fresh vegetable/fruits) to start the day. Sadly, so many children leave the house in the mornings with either no breakfast or a frozen processed something to begin their day on. There is no nutrition in that! Try this to start your day off strong, or for a boost any time:

Pineapple-Orange Smoothie w/Alfalfa Sprouts

  • 1 cup water
  • Fresh Pineapple chunks (1-2 cups)
  • 1-2 Tbsp OJ concentrate (100% Juice)
  • 1 banana
  • 1/4 cup Kefir (optional)
  • small handful of Alfalfa Sprouts (or other sprouts)
  1. Blend all ingredients in your blender.

If you like your smoothies partly frozen, add frozen banana and frozen pineapple chunks. You can also freeze the OJ in ice cube trays. Adding OJ concentrate sweetens smoothies and make them more palatable for the young ones. You can also decrease the amount of water for thick/thinness of the drink. We like ours thin and not too cold (especially during the winter months).

Let me know what smoothies you have added sprouts too.
