A Boiling Water Tap At Your Kitchen Sink
In 1973, Insinkerator acquired a company called H & H Precision Products, who were manufacturers of instant hot water dispensers. Over the years Insinkerator’s range of hot water dispenser models evolved, and they are now the world’s leading producer of these products. Insinkerator makes a wide range of dispensers that integrate into any kitchen’s decor.
An Insinkerator instant hot water dispenser or “boiling water tap”, is a kitchen sink unit that delivers piping hot, filtered water for making tea or coffee, mixing baby formula, making oatmeal or ramen noodles. It is also useful for cleaning food from dried pans, loosening tight bottle tops and many other applications.
Each Insinkerator unit consists of a faucet that is mounted in a standard sink hole at the edge of the kitchen sink. Beneath the sink there is a compact electric tank water heater and a water filter. The water heater operates on a standard 110/120V electrical supply, and because the element only comes on when hot water is needed, the operating costs are very low.
Insinkerator provides a standard filter that removes sediment and the chlorine taste and odour from the water. They also provide a more advanced filter that removes heavy metals like mercury and lead, toxic chemicals, parasites and protozoa.
Cold water from the main water supply line is first filtered, and then enters the bottom of the stainless steel water heater tank where it is heated to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. This causes the water to expand, and as it does so it moves into a small, well insulated holding tank at the top of the main water heater tank, where it is kept hot. When the hot water lever on the dispenser is pulled, hot water instantly flows out of the top of the holding tank. As this occurs more freshly filtered water enters the bottom of the main tank.
The small under sink water heater can provide 60 cups of 200 degree water every hour. If for any reason you wish to change the hot water temperature setting, there is a temperature adjustment dial on the front of the water heater tank.
Some Insinkerator instant hot water dispenser models, have a cold water lever as well. This lever dispenses cool, freshly filtered water for drinking. Insinkerator also offer an optional water chiller, that provides pre-chilled drinking water.
Insinkerator hot water dispenser models have a variety of faucet designs from ornate Victorian to contemporary styles. Faucets are made of bronze but come in many different designer finishes from chrome to nickel and oil-rubbed bronze. With most models water flow is activated with elegantly designed levers, but some of the more contemporary models have twist-style handles.
Most Insinkerator hot water dispenser models are in the $150 to $400 price range, and they come with a 3 year or 5 year “we come to your home” warranty. Insinkerator parts and accessories are widely available.
In addition to their kitchen sink dispenser, Insinkerator also makes an instant hot water dispenser for bathrooms. This unit is called the “UltraSystem”. It consists of a special faucet that fits a bathroom sink, and a 2/3 gallon under sink water heater. The water heater heats the water to 200 degrees Fahrenheit, and this near boiling water is blended with cold water at the faucet to produce 110 degree hot water for hand washing.
Insinkerator makes two UltraSystem models:The 1300 watt instant hot water dispenser can provide 10.8 gallons of hot water per hour. This model sells for about $350. The 750 watt model can provide 6.25 gallons of hot water per hour. It sells for about $335.
