Definitely not the kind of thighs you’d want to go with your bikini

In today’s cosmetic age, cellulite is a term that many women would rather not get acquainted with. For those of you in the dark, cellulite refers to the uneven skin texture and topography around the hips, thighs, and buttocks and can be seen as bumps and dimples. Cellulite is perceived as a bad thing and can make the woman look “unsexy”. It hasn’t always been this way though, and some people today still view cellulite as a natural body process that comes about with age. Still, if you’re one who can’t stand the thought of having “cottage cheese” thighs, then there’s still hope to prevent or get rid of cellulite fast. Read on.

What the Heck is Cellulite?

What goes on underneath the skin…

Contrary to popular belief, cellulite is neither an official medical term nor is it even considered a disorder. Rather, it’s used to describe the odd dimpling appearance that occurs in the thighs, hips, and buttocks of some women. This dimpling is caused by excess fat deposits just right underneath the skin, causing a rather uneven and rippled look when occurring in large number.

Although cellulite can be caused by factors outside your control like your genes, hereditary traits, or natural metabolism, it can also be caused by lifestyle choices such as poor dieting. Cellulite isn’t considered a disorder by the medical community, but tell this to the woman who has it! In terms of relationships, having cellulite can really put the damper on our social lives, especially when we’re prancing around the beach in a bikini all the while feeling self-conscious at the back of our minds. Here are some medical advice from doctors on how you can prevent getting cellulite.

Henry David Thoreau once said: “Exercise, exercise.”

How to Prevent Cellulite

A few lifestyle changes can go a long way towards preventing cellulite. Here are what the experts recommend:

  1. Eat a well-balanced diet consisting of adequate amounts of fruits, vegetables, and fiber.
  2. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day and avoid being dehydrated.
  3. Exercise regularly in order to develop good muscle tone and strong bones. This step is especially important towards preventing fat deposits from accumulating under the skin.
  4. Always maintain a healthy weight according to your age and height. Avoid binge eating or sudden gain/loss in body weight.
  5. Quit smoking. Better yet, don’t take up smoking in the first place.

A lot of the measures above require extra effort on your part. Exercise and staying on your normal weight will definitely go a long way towards preventing the accumulation of fat deposits underneath your skin, so that should be your primary concern if you plan on not having cellulite. However, if you already have it, the above measures can still help tremendously, but there are also products and services for sale that are specifically geared towards treating cellulite.
