Countertop water dispensers are a convenient way to get the luxury of bottled water into your kitchen or office easily and affordably. With improvements in refrigeration technology, water coolers have been redesigned and shrunk down to fit onto countertops taking up a fraction of the space and providing the same great tasting drinking water. When a survey asked people how many 8 oz. glasses of water people drank in a day most everyone said they either didn’t know, or guessed four or less. In fact an overwhelming majority of 83% said that they didn’t get 8 glasses of water a day. The survey went on to ask why people didn’t drink enough water and the most popular answers were that they didn’t think of it or they didn’t have enough time. Based on this survey it would seem that what’s needed to get people to drink enough water is to make it conveniently available and in a location that would remind them that they should be drinking water. Countertop water dispensers seem like the perfect solution because they offer both and they can be located just about anywhere due to their smaller size.

While countertop water dispensers save on space you don’t have to worry about sacrificing the conveniences of regular water dispensers. For instance, most countertop water dispensers will work with both 3 and 5 gallon bottles so you can still use the same water bottles that you were using before and you don’t have to worry about not finding any weird sizes. If using a bottled water dispenser, you have two options: you can either use a bottled water delivery service or you can purchase and filly your own bottles. Bottled water delivery services are nice because they’ll deliver you water and you never have to worry about going out and buying water or running out as these services are pretty flexible. The downside to this is that you’ll pay a little extra for the convenience and you’ll have to store extra bottles of water somewhere out of the way. If you choose to buy and fill your own water bottles, you’ll definitely save money in the long run, but you’ll have the additional hassle of filling a few bottles every time you go over to a relatives house (or wherever you fill them). If you’re using 5 gallon bottles, they tend to be a little heavy weighing around 40 pounds and can be a hassle if your countertop water dispenser is difficult to get to (like under a cupboard or in the middle of an island. If you feel like you’d struggle with the 5 gallon bottles, you may want to consider the 3 Gallon Water Bottle.
How to Find Cheap Countertop Water Dispensers
Countertop water dispensers tend to be approximately the same price as the full-size versions. There are some really well crafted, well designed models of countertop dispensers out there but their are also some shoddy ones that I wouldn’t recommend. The trick is finding a good model at a good price. Below are some tips on how to find a cheap countertop water dispenser.
The first thing you’ll want to do is to decide what features you want. Many of the counter top dispensers have a built in cooling unit and will provide chilled drinking water so there’s no big deal there but you will want to consider how they chill the water. There are two types of technology that chill the water: typical refrigeration technology like the one used in your refrigerator and then there’s the thermoelectric technology that doesn’t have a compressor and cools just using electricity. The refrigeration technology has been around for years and tens to be a little cheaper and will chill the water quickly. The thermoelectric technology chills the water a little slower but it uses less electricity and is much less noisey. If you think the water dispenser will get a lot of use you may want to go with the refrigeration variety; the thermoelectric water coolers are great for more infrequent use like for couples and small offices.
Another thing you’ll want to consider is whether you’ll want features like on-demand hot water. These units will cost a little bit more but provide the extremely convenient benefit of having near boiling water anytime you need it. This comes in handy for times when you want to make hot chocolate, tea, instant coffee or oatmeal. All you have to do is hit the button and you’re good to go, saving a few valuable minutes in the morning.
The best thing you can do to save money on countertop water dispensers is to find a great deal online. I’ve done a lot of shopping online and have seen some crazy one-time deals at random websites that have saved a lot of money. That being said, it takes time and a little bit of luck to try and score a deal like that. If you’re pressed for time or don’t want to do the homework, my advice is to check out Amazon as they tend to have low prices all the time on most everything they carry. Not to mention that you get free shipping.
