The Economic Policy Research Centre (EPRC) is pleased to invite you to the launch of the UNCTAD Least Developed Countries Report 2013 entitled "Growth with Employment for Inclusive and Sustainable Development?, which will take place at the EPRC Conference Room on Wednesday 20th November 2013 at 10:30 a.m.
The report shows that the LDCs face a stark demographic challenge as their population, about 60 per cent of which is currently under 25 years of age, is projected to double to 1.7 billion by 2050. Likewise, the LDC working-age population will increase on average by 15.7 million people each year. Given the clear demographic challenges, the LDCs will need to make significant efforts to generate a sufficient quantity of jobs and offer decent employment opportunities to their young population. The report also examines the link between investment, growth and employment. More specifically, it considers how LDCs such as Uganda can promote growth that generates an adequate number of quality jobs that enable them to reach what UNCTAD believes are their most urgent and pivotal goals, both now and in the post-2015 Millennium Development Goal agenda of ?poverty reduction, inclusive growth and sustainable development?.
EPRC is grateful to the United Nations Conference for Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Kampala office for bestowing on us the honor to launch the report in Uganda on their behalf. The launch will start with a formal presentation of the report by EPRC at 11:00a.m. A discussion of the report shall follow after it is launched.
